“Another Great Week” Newsletter from Principal Ferguson

Dear Lancer Families,

As mentioned at our Curriculum Nights, the Diocese is transitioning away from IOWA testing and replacing that assessment with the iReady Assessments.  Next week, our classes will take the first round of Reading and Math assessments for the year.  There will be 3 rounds in total (Fall, Winter, and Spring).  This new format of assessing students will give us a better understanding of each student's growth throughout the year.  Between the three assessment windows, students may also be assigned follow up lessons to be completed in class as part of their My Learning Path.  These lessons will specifically target any deficit areas identified through the iReady assessment. Being the first year we are administering this assessment, we are still learning the particulars as a staff.  We’ll communicate students' progress as the year moves forward.  Additionally, students in grades 3-7 will continue to take the CogAT assessment each year.

Lunchroom Supervisors - Looking for a way to volunteer at SMPS?  Maybe see your child(ren) for a bit during the school day?  Look no further…because we are in need of Lunchroom Supervisors in our lunchroom every day from 10:15am-12:45pm.

We have two ways to help…

  1. Paid positions - must work a minimum of 3 days per week

  2. Volunteer positions - open to anyone who can consistently work 1 or 2 days per week

Duties include helping open food wrappers and milk cartons, managing lunchroom behaviors, wiping tables between lunch periods, etc.  This is a great opportunity to help our school and students as well as interact with your child(ren) and their friends.  We specifically could use help on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  If you are interested, please contact Mr. Ferguson for more details.

Sheriff’s Ride to School - Those in the carline Thursday morning may have seen the excitement when the Sheriff’s squad car pulled into the lot.  This was a special treat for the Bremner Boys, Ben and Lucas.  They were the winners at the Blue and Gold Gala to be escorted by DuPage County Sheriff Deputy Tyler Fry.  Special thanks to Deputy Fry for this amazing donation!

Make it a GREAT day, Lancers!!!
