βAnother Great Weekβ Newsletter from Principal Ferguson
Dear Lancer Families,
We are drawing closer and closer to the end of another school year. There are many exciting things happening in these final days. Please check out the calendar for all the events in each grade level.
First Holy Communion - Congratulations to our 2nd Graders who received First Holy Communion last Saturday! (Photos coming soonβ¦) Each of you is such a blessing and it is a great joy to welcome you to the Eucharist. We LOVED having you join us in Communion at our all-school Mass this last Wednesday for the first time! We hope that with your First Communion, and forever after, you always feel the presence of Jesus in your life and are blessed with peace, love, and happiness.
May Crowning & Living Rosary - We were grateful to celebrate May Crowning as a school family Wednesday. Thank you to the Class of 2024 for your reverence and prayerful leadership, and for uniting us all through the Living Rosary. We see Maryβs βyesβ in the ways you respond to Godβs call toward goodness, holiness, and love for others. May God bless you all as we close out your time here at St. Michael Parish School, and may you continue to grow in love and grace!
Science Fair - On Friday, May 3 - Evan King, Ava O'Malley, Nivi Raj and Pepper Rozylowicz participated in the Paper Session competition for the state fair. Each of them earned a Gold Award for their papers and presentations! On Saturday, May 4 - Matthew Burkly, Bobby DelaCruz, McKinnon Gryniewicz, Lauren Henkel, Chloe Rockliff and Ada Ude participated in the Project Session competition for the state fair. Matthew, Bobby, McKinnon and Chloe earned a Silver Award. Lauren Henkel earned a Gold Award. Ada Ude earned a Gold Award for her project as well as taking 1st place in the Junior Division in the category of Zoology. Ada also was nominated to compete in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. All of our students should be extremely proud of their accomplishments!
Kindergarten Celebrations - This week, our Kindergarteners recapped all they learned throughout the year with a presentation for their parents and grandparents. They presented mini speeches and sang songs. Thank you to Mrs. Keough and Mrs. Shannon for all their hard work this year with our young learners. With the help of Mrs. Abernathy and Mrs. Crider and all the Specials Teachers, theyβve prepared our students to be successful in 1st Grade next year. Also, special thanks to all the parents for volunteering throughout the year. We are blessed to have such a special community of supporters.
Teacher Appreciation - Our teachers are the heart and soul of our school, tirelessly devoting themselves to the education and well-being of our students. They go above and beyond, not only in imparting knowledge but also in nurturing the growth of each child entrusted to their care. Their passion for teaching, coupled with their boundless enthusiasm, creates an environment where learning flourishes and dreams take flight. I am continually amazed by the creativity, innovation, and adaptability demonstrated by our teachers, especially in the face of unprecedented challenges. Whether it's embracing new technologies, designing engaging lesson plans, or providing much-needed support to students and families, they consistently rise to the occasion with grace and resilience. On behalf of the entire St. Michael Parish School community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every teacher for their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication. Their passion for teaching and your steadfast commitment to our students are truly commendable, and it is an honor to work alongside such exemplary educators.
Nurses Appreciation - Our school nurse, Mrs. Crocker, is the unsung hero who works tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring the safety and welfare of our students. She is the first line of defense in times of illness or injury, providing compassionate care and expert guidance to those in need. Whether she is administering medications, treating minor injuries, or offering a comforting presence to those in distress, she does so with grace and kindness. We are immensely grateful for everything she does. Her kindness, compassion, and expertise make our school a better place, and we are honored to have her as part of our team.
Motherβs Day - Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible moms in our SMPS community! Sunday is a special day to celebrate and honor the love, sacrifice, and unwavering support that mothers provide each and every day. Your impact is immeasurable and your love knows no bounds. Thank you for all that you do. Wishing you a day filled with joy, love, and appreciation!
Make it a GREAT day, Lancers!

St. Michaelβs Volleyball Registration and Evaluation Information
Thank you for considering signing your child up for the
2024 Volleyball Season. Volleyball is a popular sport in our area and offered to all incoming 5th through 8th graders at St. Michaelβs.
Players and Teams
There is a place for every single student at St.Michaelβs who wishes to participate in volleyball regardless of experience or skill level. There are βA teamsβ and βB teamsβ at most age and gender levels and based on the number of players who register. Teams compete against others with comparable skill levels. Through the evaluation process, outside evaluators and in some cases, the coaching staff from the previous year, will determine which team best suits your daughter or son.
For the 2024 Volleyball Season, tryouts will be held at the Cashin Gym.

Season Length
Generally, the fall volleyball season starts with practices and runs from the first or second week of August through Championship weekend in late October.
Practices
Practices start the first or second week of August. They are held in the Cashin Gym, in the evening during the week, last one hour, and typically occur two times per week. The practice schedule is based on your coachβs preference and availability and will be sent out over the summer.
Matches
Between practice games, tournaments, league play and playoffs, there are approximately 15 matches held throughout the season from about the third weekend of August through Championship weekend in late October. Matches are typically on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be both home games and away games. Away games are mostly in the surrounding area with a small number that require a further drive of 30-45 minutes.
Coaches
Teams are coached by volunteer parents. There is always a need for head coaches and assistant coaches. Through the registration process, you will be asked to let us know if you are interested. Please consider this enriching opportunity! Coaches will be selected after teams are created.
Cost
Access to the Cashin Gym covers a large percentage of costs associated with participating in volleyball, but there are league fees, tournament allowances, uniform expenses, and referee expenses to cover. The cost per athlete is $165. There are discounts for multiple athletes within the same family, capping a familyβs yearly expenses for volleyball at $265.
Registration
When registering your child, please register them for the grade that they will be in for the 2024/2025 school year.
