β€œAnother Great Week” Newsletter from Principal Ferguson

Dear Lancer Families,

It’s been a busy couple weeks filled with many end of the year traditions and activities…and there’s lots more to come…

  • Spring Sings & Prayer Services - Preschool and Kindergarten classes recapped (or will this week!) their wonderful year of learning with joyful spring singing performances and Prayer Services. Congratulations to all our students, families, and teachers in our Early Learning program on an incredible year!

  • Egg Drop - Our 5th graders showed off their engineering skills by constructing a contraption to hold an egg which were then thrown off the roof of the school building…some were more successful than others, but most were able to save their eggs!

  • 8th Grade Chicago Trip - On Friday, our 8th Graders spend the day downtown Chicago taking in the sites. It was a beautiful day and fun was had by all. They visited Millenium Park, toured Wrigley Field, had lunch in Lincoln Park, learned about all the special aspects of Holy Name Cathedral, saw the animals at Lincoln Park Zoo

  • Principal’s Coupons - Two of our Gala winner families shared their Principal Coupons with their classmates.  We had Ice Cream and Extra Recess Parties in Mrs. Shannon’s and Ms. Green’s classrooms, a Pizza Party in the Principal’s Office, two special guests on the Morning Announcements, Mr. Wolf had some assistance from our Student Gym Teachers, and the whole school enjoyed an Out of Uniform Day last week!  Thank you Luke, Cecelia, and Lucy for sharing these awards with us!

  • Confirmation - All year, our 8th graders have been preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation.  This is a significant milestone in their faith journey, marking their commitment to live according to the teachings of the Church. May the Holy Spirit guide them, and may they continue to grow in wisdom, courage, and grace. Blessings to all the 8th graders on their special day and always!

  • 8th Grade Graduation - After 11 years at SMPS for some, our 8th graders will be graduating on Tuesday, May 21st.  The day begins with a special Awards Brunch with their parents in Cashin Gym at 11:00am, followed by a Mass and Graduation Ceremony at 7:00pm. We are excited to celebrate this Class of 2024!

  • Class Picnics - On Thursday, May 23rd our classes will be visiting the local Wheaton Parks to enjoy games, activities, food and fun!! Please be on the lookout for specific details from the Homeroom Moms for your child’s class. Be sure to send your kids with plenty of water and sunscreen for the day!

  • Last Day of School - We will celebrate our final School Mass of the year on Friday, May 24th at 8:00am. This will be Fr. Dan’s final School Mass with us. After Mass, we will celebrate Fr. Dan’s 20th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood with popsicles in the Parking Lot. Dismissal for the summer will be at 10:00am.

Make it a GREAT day, Lancers!

  • St. Michael’s Volleyball Registration and Evaluation Information

Thank you for considering signing your child up for the

2024 Volleyball Season. Volleyball is a popular sport in our area and offered to all incoming 5th through 8th graders at St. Michael’s.

    Players and Teams

There is a place for every single student at St.Michael’s who wishes to participate in volleyball regardless of experience or skill level. There are β€œA teams” and β€œB teams” at most age and gender levels and based on the number of players who register. Teams compete against others with comparable skill levels. Through the evaluation process, outside evaluators and in some cases, the coaching staff from the previous year, will determine which team best suits your daughter or son.

For the 2024 Volleyball Season, tryouts will be held at the Cashin Gym.

PLEASE REMEMBER. THIS IS YOUR ATHLETE’S GRADE FOR THE 2024/2025 SCHOOL YEAR!

    Season Length

Generally, the fall volleyball season starts with practices and runs from the first or second week of August through Championship weekend in late October.

    Practices

Practices start the first or second week of August. They are held in the Cashin Gym, in the evening during the week, last one hour, and typically occur two times per week. The practice schedule is based on your coach’s preference and availability and will be sent out over the summer.

    Matches

Between practice games, tournaments, league play and playoffs, there are approximately 15 matches held throughout the season from about the third weekend of August through Championship weekend in late October. Matches are typically on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be both home games and away games. Away games are mostly in the surrounding area with a small number that require a further drive of 30-45 minutes.

    Coaches

Teams are coached by volunteer parents. There is always a need for head coaches and assistant coaches. Through the registration process, you will be asked to let us know if you are interested. Please consider this enriching opportunity! Coaches will be selected after teams are created.

    Cost

Access to the Cashin Gym covers a large percentage of costs associated with participating in volleyball, but there are league fees, tournament allowances, uniform expenses, and referee expenses to cover. The cost per athlete is $165. There are discounts for multiple athletes within the same family, capping a family’s yearly expenses for volleyball at $265.

    Registration

When registering your child, please register them for the grade that they will be in for the 2024/2025 school year.

St. Michael’s Athletics uses an online registration process.

Please sign up for the TeamSnap App. St. Michael Athletics will be using this App for registration, team organization, team communication, and scheduling throughout your child’s Lancer Athletic experience. Here is the link… Team Snap Home

Through a web browser and not the App, please register for the Volleyball Team through this link… 2024 Lancer Volleyball Registration Link

After you have registered online, please send an envelope into the school office. It should include payment made out to St. Michael Parish School, and a copy of the Concussion Protocol Form.

Registration Closes on Saturday May, 4th.

This is a hard deadline date. We will not be able to add after May 4th.
