β€œAnother Great Week” Newsletter from Principal Ferguson

Dear Lancer Families,

Grandparents & VIPs Day - Today was such a special day at St. Michael Parish School filled with wonderful memories created during our recent Grandparents/VIPs Day celebration. It was truly heartwarming to see our school community come together to honor and celebrate the special bond between grandparents/VIPs and grandchildren.  Thank you to all the grandparents and VIPs who joined us for this memorable event. Your presence added so much joy and warmth to our school, and it was a privilege to witness the love and affection shared between generations.  I also want to thank our students for their heartfelt performances, thoughtful gestures, and warm welcome extended to their grandparents/VIPs. Your enthusiasm and appreciation truly made Grandparents Day a meaningful and unforgettable experience for all.

Poetry Elocution Contest - On Monday, we hosted the 21st Annual Poetry Elocution Contest.  All the students did a fantastic job presenting their poems for the whole school.  The following students earned awards…

3rd & 4th grade: Maggie O'Donnell

5th & 6th grade: Ben Kojak

7th & 8th grade: Gia Carmona & Patrick Mahan (tie)

Teachers' Choice Award:

1st & 2nd grade: Claire Henkel

3rd & 4th grade: Maggie O'Donnell

First Holy Communion - Congratulations to our wonderful 2nd graders on the joyous occasion of their First Holy Communion, taking place on Saturday, May 4th. Our 2nd graders will take the next step in their faith formation by receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. I want to commend our 2nd graders for their dedication, reverence, and preparation leading up to this important sacrament. Your commitment to your faith and your eagerness to receive Jesus in the Eucharist is truly inspiring, and I am immensely proud of each and every one of you.  I also want to express my gratitude to our dedicated teachers and parish staff who have played a vital role in preparing our students for this special day. Your guidance, support, and encouragement have helped our 2nd graders grow in their understanding of the Eucharist and deepen their love for Jesus Christ.

May Crowning & Living Rosary - Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 8th when we will celebrate May Crowning at our All School Mass, followed by the Living Rosary presented by our 8th graders.  We hope you all can join us for this special celebration.

EOY Events - As we look towards the end of another school year, please check out the calendar for all the many events taking place in our classrooms these final 15 days of the 2023-2024 school year!

  • St. Michael’s Volleyball Registration and Evaluation Information

Thank you for considering signing your child up for the

2024 Volleyball Season. Volleyball is a popular sport in our area and offered to all incoming 5th through 8th graders at St. Michael’s.

    Players and Teams

There is a place for every single student at St.Michael’s who wishes to participate in volleyball regardless of experience or skill level. There are β€œA teams” and β€œB teams” at most age and gender levels and based on the number of players who register. Teams compete against others with comparable skill levels. Through the evaluation process, outside evaluators and in some cases, the coaching staff from the previous year, will determine which team best suits your daughter or son.

For the 2024 Volleyball Season, tryouts will be held at the Cashin Gym.

PLEASE REMEMBER. THIS IS YOUR ATHLETE’S GRADE FOR THE 2024/2025 SCHOOL YEAR!

    Season Length

Generally, the fall volleyball season starts with practices and runs from the first or second week of August through Championship weekend in late October.

    Practices

Practices start the first or second week of August. They are held in the Cashin Gym, in the evening during the week, last one hour, and typically occur two times per week. The practice schedule is based on your coach’s preference and availability and will be sent out over the summer.

    Matches

Between practice games, tournaments, league play and playoffs, there are approximately 15 matches held throughout the season from about the third weekend of August through Championship weekend in late October. Matches are typically on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be both home games and away games. Away games are mostly in the surrounding area with a small number that require a further drive of 30-45 minutes.

    Coaches

Teams are coached by volunteer parents. There is always a need for head coaches and assistant coaches. Through the registration process, you will be asked to let us know if you are interested. Please consider this enriching opportunity! Coaches will be selected after teams are created.

    Cost

Access to the Cashin Gym covers a large percentage of costs associated with participating in volleyball, but there are league fees, tournament allowances, uniform expenses, and referee expenses to cover. The cost per athlete is $165. There are discounts for multiple athletes within the same family, capping a family’s yearly expenses for volleyball at $265.

    Registration

When registering your child, please register them for the grade that they will be in for the 2024/2025 school year.

St. Michael’s Athletics uses an online registration process.

Please sign up for the TeamSnap App. St. Michael Athletics will be using this App for registration, team organization, team communication, and scheduling throughout your child’s Lancer Athletic experience. Here is the link… Team Snap Home
