“Another Great Week” Newsletter from Principal Ferguson

Dear Lancer Families,

We celebrated Ash Wednesday at our weekly school liturgy.

Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ (taken from USCCB.org).

As you prepare for Christ’s death and resurrection, take time as a family to pray together and deepen your faith experience.  As I've shared every year, Matthew Kelly is a wonderful Evangelist.  On his website, DynamicCatholic.com, you can find many wonderful resources, short videos, and other information pertaining to our Catholic Faith.  Click HERE to view his Ultimate Lenten Journey: Your Spiritual Pilgrimage to Divine Mercy.  I hope you enjoy it!

Important Updates:

Road Construction on Gary Ave - We were informed this week by the City of Wheaton of their planned Road Construction Project on Gary Ave north of Harrison Ave and south of Prairie Ave (Entrance to the Wheaton Sports Center). This road closure will most definitely impact families who travel this road as they commute to and from school each day. We have been in contact with Illinois Central Bus Company and are working to see how much revising of the bus routes will impact pick up and drop off times for our students whose buses use this stretch of roadway. We will be in contact with specific families once we have more information.

Regional Science Fair Update - The following students participated in the Regional Science Fair today…Madeline Beyer, Benjamin Carroll, Abby Egan, Reagan Florczak, Quinn Foley, Lucy Jones, Eloise Kalins, Natalie Schumaker, Jimmy Taschetta, and Trent Wiedman. Congrats on their efforts thus far!

Uniform and Handbook Policy Reminders - During our Lenten season students may wear a Spirit Wear shirt with their uniform bottoms on Fridays. No out of Uniform tickets are allowed to be used during Lent as stated on the tickets.

LoveEd (Level II) - Wednesday, March 12th @ 6:30pm we will be hosting LoveEd (Level II) for 7th & 8th Grade Boys and Girls. All details were sent specifically to these families in a previous email.

Basketball Update - Congrats to all our Teams who advanced to the next round of the Basketball Playoffs.  Best of luck to our 5A Girls, 7B Girls, and 8B Boys Teams this weekend. To all those who have ended your seasons, thank you for your hard work and dedication to SMPS Basketball this year!
