“Another Great Week” Newsletter from Principal Ferguson
Dear Lancer Families,
We had a great week back after the Christmas Break! The wonderful Midwest winter weather is starting to descend upon us. As a point of reference, we will be going outside for recess each day as long as the “feels like” temp is 10 degrees or higher. Please make sure that your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves each day in anticipation of going outside. If for any reason we would need to cancel school for snow or freezing cold temps, we will notify families through an email, as well as a social media post on Facebook and Instagram. Typically, this decision will be made in the early morning, by 5:30am. Our schedule has 1 built in Emergency Weather Day…fingers crossed, we don’t have to extend the school year!
All year, our 2nd graders have been preparing for two very important Sacraments…First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. The 2nd Grade teachers have been guiding them in the ways of the Holy Spirit and earlier this week, the 2nd Graders had the chance to meet with our parish Priests and make their First Reconciliation. We are so happy they were able to take this next step in their faith journey through this sacred Sacrament. Congratulations to all!!
Before Christmas Break, students participated in the Knights of Columbus Christmas Poster Contest. The theme was “Keeping Christ in Christmas.” The submissions were AMAZING…we have some truly talented artists at SMPS. The Knights awarded a cash prize for the top 3 winners. Congratulations to Claire Dey (1st Place), Kaya Luciano (2nd Place) and Katya Korolchuk (3rd Place). Great job girls!! Thank you to Colin Diamond (SMPS Alum and Grand Knight of council #2601) for celebrating with our winners.
The Catholic Education Foundation scholarship program is designed for K-12 students with demonstrated financial need currently enrolled or applying for the next school year in any CEF-supported Catholic schools within the Diocese of Joliet. Due to the unfortunate loss of the Tax Credit Scholarship Program, we expect that there will be limited scholarship funds this year, and families should apply as soon as possible. Click HERE for more details.
Remember, No School Friday, January 12 (Teacher Inservice) or Monday, January 15 (MLK Day)! Enjoy the long weekend and stay warm!!
